Woolworths to re-launch as online store

Woolworths has been sold to the owners of the Shop Direct Group and will re-launch as an online-only store this summer. The brand is being bought by the Barclay twins, who own the Shop Direct group and The Daily Telegraph, for an undisclosed sum. Woolworths went into administration in November 2008 and its more than 800 stores closed a month ago after struggling with debts of £385m. It is thought only a fraction of the former total of almost 30,000 staff will get their jobs back.
