It's not surprising that the number of people looking to network and find work is on the rise as the economy sputters. However, LinkedIn is riding that wave at the rate of one new member every second, Ad Age reports.
The site reached 36 million members last week and has grown from 3.6 million unique monthly visitors to 7.7 million in the last year, according to comScore. That number puts it in close competition with Yahoo HotJobs, the third-largest online job site, according to Ad Age.
But all that growth poses a necessary question: Will there be enough supply to meet all that demand? Monster's job site traffic was up 76 percent year-over-year in January, but its first-quarter revenue is projected to be down 30 percent over the same period due to a sagging help-wanted ad market. Monster's management has warned that it expects to operate in the red for the next three quarters as well. more
